Very good to fine condition.Residence in That Island Palma di Cesnola, General Louis Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1878 , 456 pages; Text block complete, clean and securely stitched, front board detached, 1/4" strip of the spine cloth lost, ffep detached & chipped. A very good candidate for rebacking or rebinding, priced accordingly. Illustrated with frontispiece portrait of the author, 2 full page maps, 49 plates, 9 plates of inscriptions & numerous text illustrations. Cesnola was an Italian Army officer and archaeologist who immigrated to the U.S. and served during the Civil War. Naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1865, Cesnola served as U.S. Consul to Cyprus from 1865 to 1876. He later served as Director of the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
