A charming little mid-nineteenth century French educational volume in the original blue paper covered boards and grey cloth spine, a little light rubbing to the extremities of the edges/corners, with a black-printed paper label with a black decorative border to the spine. A former owner's name, address and date (1855) in old ink on the front pastedown. An oval blue (booksellers) stamp under the half title opposite. 232pp. 2 Fold out maps in b/w after the Table of Contents. An occasional light foxing spot (yellowy-browny spot) here and there, but generally the book is very clean apart from an old brown (ink? ) stain running through the blank edges of pages 72-80. Contents include: - Histories of The Egyptians, the Assyrians, the Medes and the Persians; History of Greece and the Greeks; The Kingdom of EGYPT; The Kingdom of SYRIA...; The Carthiginians, with observations on the Progress of the Arts, Letters, Sciences in Antiquity.
